When I was 14 I told a girl I had a crush on that I loved the film Amelie. She told me it was a chick flick, and shamed me for liking it, and said I was gay. I refused to watch Amelie for years after that, but even now, 12 years later, that moment we talked still triggers my anxiety and can keep me from sleeping.
